What To Do If I Need Help Writing My Dissertation
Everyone needs help in just about every area of their life from time to time. Problems are by no means exclusive to dissertations. Thankfully, you are not alone and there are quite literally dozens of places and people that you can turn to for help. The most important thing is accepting and recognising that you need the help in the first place and then seeking it out. There is certainly no shame in doing this. In fact, getting help rather than floundering is actually the sensible and pragmatic thing to do!
So, what do you do? Who do you turn to when needing help writing it?
Don’t just sit there
As I have already alluded to, help won’t just come to you. You have to be willing to ask for it. This is not a time to be burying your head in the sand. It is a time for decisive measures. Go get the help that you need.
Try and figure out what help you need
This might seem like a bit of a no-brainer, but it is highly unlikely that you are going to need help with ALL of your dissertation. Most students find that they flounder with one particular area, for example writing the Thesis, or struggling to write an effective conclusion. Breaking down your issues will serve several purposes. It will:
Identify areas that need to be addressed
Give you the confidence to realise that you can do it.
Speak to your lecturer
Your lecturer really should be the first person that you turn to if you having trouble. They work with you day in and day out and are intimately familiar with the course and the particular assignment. Far from being an admission of defeat, they would much rather know that you were encountering difficulties. Go speak to them. You will probably be amazed at the result!
Turn to your text-books
I don’t know why it is, but text-books are grossly underrated. Students tend to see them as a last-resort rather than a first port of call. You need to reverse that attitude and dive into your books. They are not on your reading list for the good of it, you know!
Speak to trusted friends
Your friends are friends for a reason. They like you. They want to help you. If you are having trouble with a particular element of your dissertation go speak to them, figure it out together!
